CEF – 5G coverage along transport corridors – 2023

Objective

To leverage the needed private investment in order to establish a full pan-European road and railway network of 5G corridors by the end of the CEF programme (2027).

Priorities

• Priority 1: To deploy 5G systems along transport paths for enabling the development of Connected and Automated Mobility, including automated rail and waterway operations
• Priority 2: To reach ininterrupted coverage meeting service requirements for Connected and Automated Mobility (CAM), Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) and Future Railway Mobile Communications Systems FRMCS), River Information Systems (RIS) and also for multi-service/multi-application 5G services along European transport paths
• Priority 3: To support investment in cross-border sections of a Member State with one or more Member States or associated countries with higher funding rate

Among financed actions

• Deployment of passive network elements including civil works
• Deployment and installation of active network elements
• Deployment and installation of specific track side devices for CAM use cases
• Studies for preparatory works

Additional information

• This call for proposals is an open call for proposals.
• Initial duration of the action: up to 36 months for works actions and up to 6 months for studies actions

Eligibility

• Be a legal person
• Be a public or private entity
• A consortium composed of at least 2 entities, established in at least 2 different EU Member States or associated countries to the programme must be constituted

• Total budget of the call: 100 million euro
• Amount per topic:
  • CEF-DIG-2023-5GCORRIDORS-WORKS: 95 million euro
  • CEF-DIG-2023-5GCORRIDORS-STUDIES: 5 million euro
• Amount of the grant:
  • CEF-DIG-2023-5GCORRIDORS-WORKS: between 10 million and 25 million euro
  • CEF-DIG-2023-5GCORRIDORS-STUDIES: between 300.000 and 1 million euro
• Co-financing rate:
  • CEF-DIG-2023-5GCORRIDORS-WORKS: 70% of the total eligible costs
  • CEF-DIG-2023-5GCORRIDORS-STUDIES: 50% of the total eligible costs
  • For all other costs categories: 30% of the total eligible costs
  • For projects that concerns strong cross-border dimension: 50% of the total eligible costs
