EU4H – Monitor and strengthen the implementation of innovative approaches to prostate, lung and gastric cancer screening at Union level – 2022

Objective

To provide Member States with evidence-based knowledge to be transferred to further design, plan, and implement prostate, lung, and gastric cancer screenings

Priorities

• Priority 1: optimisation of knowledge transfer, a better understanding of the needs, and the design, planning and development of possible options for future implementation of targeted screening on prostate, lung, and gastric cancers
• Priority 2: initiatives to fill the existing gaps in knowledge and to fine-tune and improve the Member States’ approaches to the early detection of prostate, lung, and gastric cancer
• Priority 3: develop and roll-out pilot projects through pan-European cooperation, with a special focus on addressing questions that are still open, including on cost-benefit and optimal benefit-harm balance and potential impact on health inequality of prostate, lung and gastric cancer screening programmes including the identification of appropriate financing mechanisms

Among financed actions

• Needs assessment of Member States, taking into account the different epidemiology and populations at risk for lung, prostate and gastric cancers
• Periodical information on benefit-harm balance and cost-effectiveness of the screenings
• The design, planning and implementation of at least two pilot projects per type of cancer, with the objective of assessing the concrete feasibility of the screenings, fulfilling the requirements of national or regional health authorities
• At least three highly visible conferences targeting all three types of cancers

• This call for proposals is an open call for proposals
• Initial duration of the action: between 12 and 36 months

Eligibility

• Be legal entities (public or private bodies)
• Be established in one of the eligible countries
• Proposals by a single applicant are also eligible

• Total amount of the call: 107,3 million euro
• Total budget of the topic “Monitor and strengthen the implementation of innovative approaches to prostate, lung and gastric cancer screening at Union level”: 30 million euro
  • Sub-topic 1 “CR-g-22-09.01”: 10 million euro
  • Sub-topic 2 “CR-g-22-09.02”: 10 million euro
  • Sub-topic 3 “CR-g-22-09.03”: 10 million euro
• Co-financing rate: up to 60% of the total eligible costs; or up to 80% if your project is of “exceptional utility”
